Or you might have googled me. <br /><br />(The blog finally googles…thanks, Google-bombers!)<br /><br />The disclaimer: <br /><br />If you’re a visitor who has arrived here via a Google hit, I’d like to let you know that while one or two hits near it link to sites with which my name is legitimately associated, the rest will take you to sites where the appearance of my name is bogus.<br /><br />Someone has been using my identity online with the express purpose of harming my "online reputation.” Between the months of October and November this person posted 154 messages to a popular dance culture message board as me.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HxU5RmlqVVs/R_bnSTDDMhI/AAAAAAAAAFg/0jTq43FOjk4/s1600-h/Picture+14.png"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HxU5RmlqVVs/R_bnSTDDMhI/AAAAAAAAAFg/0jTq43FOjk4/s400/Picture+14.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5185586322500432402" /></a><br /><br />Recently this person has posted comments to other random websites using my name.<br /><br />I never leave comments online (unless it is to the Facebook page of a friend), and if I ever did, I would not use my full name. There are no instances in cyberspace in which I refer to myself by first and last name. Until this prank began I had not heard of the online community that hosts the forum in which a ‘farrakorshin’ posted personal information about me, some of which is true (such as my Jewish heritage, my physical appearance, the color of my car, details about my family) and some of which is not (no need to get into these).<br /><br />I submit this disclaimer as a message either to curious new friends or to long lost ones (some of whom have googled and then written me out of the blue, mystified by my online "behavior"). It may also serve to inform potential employers or landlords for whom Google has become an important vetting tool. Basically, it is for anyone who is googling people these days. <br /><br />Thanks.
